How Does the Steam Calculator Work?
The Pre-Launch Math (Followers to Wishlists)
Valve hides public wishlist counts, but Steam Followers are public. We use the industry-standard 10x Multiplier (1 Follower = ~10 Wishlists). For year-one sales estimates, the calculator assumes a standard 20% Wishlist Conversion Rate, which is the baseline for a healthy indie launch.
The Post-Launch Math (The Boxleiter Ratio)
Once a game is released, followers matter less than reviews. To estimate total sales for released competitors, we use the modern Boxleiter Ratio. Currently, the industry standard is that 1 Steam Review equals approximately 30 Sales.
Why is Net Revenue only 50% of Gross Revenue?
A common trap for first-time developers is calculating Total Sales × USD Price and assuming that is their profit. This calculator automatically deducts the hidden costs of launching on Steam to show your true take-home pay:
